The mlogit package in R can estimate MNL with random coefficients. It's pretty fast with small datasets, but a lot slower with larger datasets.

I've also translated Train's GAUSS code for mixed logits to R and posted it to my website. It's a bit clunky, but it works, and it seems to be faster than mlogit with large datasets. If you experience any problems with it, please send me an email and I'll fix it.

A lot of people from Chile living in the US reconsidered living in the US after the massive earthquake. Stuff like that makes you rethink your priorities...

OK, the models aren't created to prove capital shouldn't be taxed, they just exist and people decide they like that line of work based on whether they think capital should be taxed. This explains why they do not examine that foundation further and why there are *not* many (I'd say any) dynamic models of that type in which capital should not be taxed.

You could also take all this, and yourselves, a bit less seriously.

^and^^ Indeed, the idea that the models are intentionally created to justify zero tax on capital or something like that is "Vulgar Marxism". No serious Marxist or Post-Keynesian would make such unsophisticated claims about the relation between economic base and cultural superstructure.

^Foolish stupidity. The idea that the models are intended to justify a real-life zero tax on capital is retarded, the kind of nonsense Austrians and Post-Keynesians engage in. And plenty of models say capital should be taxed, you fucking idiot.

God, the New School really is shit.

"Really? I thought the Utopian ideals of DSGEs, rational expectations and RBCs were right-wing inventions meant to blame workers for business cycles. Econometrics is very useful for the working class."

Not exactly. They are constructed to make sure it only makes sense to *tax* the workers, never the income from capital. For a most unusual take on that issue, see this obit for Earl Thompson at UCLA:
