    why having a paper published in econometrica is hard to get a job? I don't understand.

    It's not Rochester or BU that's the issue...Demand for theory this year is absolutely terrible and for individual choice it's even worse (the only good theory slots seem to be at B-Schools who'd focus on game theorists). I sincerely hope the guy finds a good spot where he's happy and can continue being productive.

    Perhaps folks who understand this paper (with the exception of the editor and referees) feel that it did not deserve to be in Econometrica. A few decision theorists have expressed that perspective.

    ^^ even so, that hardly explains the apparent outcome

    what if the paper "only" "deserved" to be in REStud or JET instead, it would still look like a pretty tough outcome to me

    I met the guy and liked him. Too bad, I have no say in hiring. Job market is very noisy anyway, Hansen did not get a job out of grad school.
