Hi, I'm an assistant prof at a very good place, doing reasonably well (four top field publications). Tenure is nowhere near, I have few more years of security. Yet I suddenly stopped to enjoy my job. I fear to start new projects, and kill my time with revisions. I even enjoy getting requests to referee as they are a good excuse not to do my research. I keep thinking about escape routes, though I see none that I would want to take. How common are these crises? Any experience, advice?

You are at a very good place: Do you like it? Do you like the people? Given that you are eager to referee, it doesn't sound like you suddenly despise your field; rather, it sounds like you've grown tired of trying to impress people. If you like your field but have decided you don't like your department, I'd look at what nearby schools have to offer. You might lose some prestige but gain colleagues you like. (Or not, so make sure to do your homework.)

I am in my first year of my tenure track and I feel very depressed. I feel I know nothing and I am just a lemon. Do I have other real options before or after they kick me out?

To the OP, you might benefit from a low dose of zoloft or other SSRI. Honestly.

Actually I've been taking Cipralex (20mg) and it is really helpful. Wouldn't have been able to finish my phd without it. Start off at a lower dose and work your way up.
