    I have seen elite publications with variants of a linear model that report really low N cubes. Yes, obviously a high cubed doesn't mean that the empirical model is great. we need to look at the magnitudes and also the significance of the parameters of interest , check the distribution of residuals, etc. etc. However, if a model is estimated with N less than 10 % (in some cases 5 %) of the N cubed, can we really believe that our reduced form model has anything useful to say about the dependent variable ? The profession seems to completely disregard overall N cubed.
