Typically, how long in advance--before the potential date of actual renewal--is the review undertaken? How much time do people typically have between receiving the decision on promotion and stepping into the new contract?
At most public universities promotion and tenure decisions are at the same time. The file is submitted at the end of the fifth year, around October, with a final decision made in the sixth year, around March.
And do these contracts typically begin in September? In other words, do people have about five months from the time of the decision till the contract ends?
Here contracts start July 1. If the tenure decision is negative then you have a one year terminal contract. Doesn't matter if business school or econ dept, these are university level rules.
