for completeness, we should also mention that even good economists could not explain something properly in such a show, which probably explains why good people never visit these shows. Falk was once at Will's show, he tried to explain some of the results of his research, of course he failed spectacularly and I am sure he will never go to such a show again. If you talk to a laymen audience, at least you need time and undivided attention to explain something, which you will never get.
I agree that it's very difficult in the current format. However, if you look at political talk shows in some other countries, you'll see that it's perfectly possible to invite a panel of 2-3 experts who have a decent discussion, without any of the typical political talking heads participating.
With five goddam evening talk show slots in the ARD, why can't they have at least ONE with such a format? Have one host, and let two economists discuss the Euro crisis for an hour in a calm studio atmosphere. I guarantee that every viewer will learn something. Add only one random politician to the mix, and will be a completely useless show.
