Undergrads are not dumb, it's just that most of them care more about feeling good / activism / social image / academic culture, than about getting things right. They don't have an incentive to think deeply about some issues, because they don't face the cost of having wrong opinions.
Why else do you think the Ivy League undergrads are every bit as ignorant about economics as Buttf**k Nowhere State College?
Same principle holds true for plenty of academics.
