“I left Russia for a place just like Russia"

Sad. But then again, I don't understand why these people expected the US immigration system would treat them differently from all the other asylum seekers or just thousands of Latin Americans trying to cross the border. Maybe it's that famous Russian whiny entitlement some people are talking about all the time nowadays. It's quitе pаrаsitiс.
Most of the folks mentioned in the article are not activists by any stretch of the word, just regular politically active young millenials and zoomers who got the taste of Putin's system and decided they aren't willing to waste away their youth trying to tame the bloodthursty bеаst when it is in its most dangerous form.
I can related to them as I consider myself to be in exactly the same social group, but, boy, these people are naive.

Those Borises are ridiculous. Of course they'll be under the watchful eye. Who knows why you want to come to the US so badly?
Check out the channel Natasha's Adventures on YouTube for insights on this. It's a form of extreme admiration which leads to self-hatred of your own people and country.

Nah. I would think many of them are spies. That's why they stress their "opposition to Pvt1n" while not really having anything to show for it. A very safe legend indeed.

Is there anything not to hate Russia for right now?
A lot (most?) people there are mindlessly repeating genocidal TV propaganda, economy is dеtеriоrаting and it won't recover for decades (and most are ok with it), you are bombarded with propaganda and "voluntary" donation requests for the army in the workplace, in stores, in schools and even kindergardens, people are being jailed, krilled, abused daily. Russia is bleak, violent and depressing place right now.

Boris is throwing Natasha under the bus? She lived in eastern Russia where probably 90% of the bathrooms were cowboy style outhouses. She spent some time abroad on some kind of exchange where she got to see what living outside of Russia was like. What were you expecting? That she would be happy to go back to then end of the world with no prospects of seeing indoor plumbing? She is a decently attractive girl with a reasonable channel that can open her door to a more civilized location and you thought she wasn't going to take it as soon as Russia gave her a reason to leave? Besides she was probably going to get arrested after all the protests she went to.

What people seem not to understand is that the conflict between the United States and Europe, on the one hand, and Russia and China on the other is most defintely now, like the Cold War, an ideological conflict between fundamentally different societies. Russia and China are just as capitalistic as the United States and Europe, even if they are not "democracies."
The United States and Europe most definitely do not stand for laissez-faire in thought and in politics, but are, in effect, "militant liberal democracies" (c.f, Karl Löwenstein, Carl Joachim Friedrich, Carl Schmitt, etc.). Germany has been a militant democracy both de facto and de jure ever since 1949 while the United States is a militant democracy de facto, with the most important. Militant democracy is not tolerant of intolerance.

Not sure how this is a response to anything I wrote. You are writing about "fundamental flaws of democracy" to a person from a country currently involved in self-demolition on a whim of one unelected dictator, so allow me the curtesy of kindly disagreeing with you and leaving it at that.
In any case, you are not a USCIS officer, chud, so your preferences for who should or shouldn't be granted asylum status are irrelevant. You may take your concerns to your senate representative, though *wink wink*
