Entire area is expensive. What kind of a life can you live on 115k in the York U area? In Canada that puts you in one of the top tax bands (if not the top) too. You won't have much left after taxes and other deductions.
BTW, what does a place like York pay? Anything less than 150k CAD is poverty level in Toronto.

Ouch. That's horrible.
York is barely in Toronto. They didn't have a subway stop until recently, and even that's part of the suburban line, designed to provide an alternate entryway so the student union can't keep blocking entry at a whim.

How many university positions this year are AA positions? I know at least 3 in Canada that certain groups are restricting from applying to.
Insider here. Honestly, nearly every position I know of at my school, as well as others where I have close friends and colleagues, is an AA/DEI position. Only a few schools are brave enough to put such requirements explicitly into their ads, but I can tell you as an insider that the higher ups in the university (e.g. Dean's office, or Provost's office) won't approve a hire unless the JMC is AA/DEI. It's as simple as that. Over the last 6-7 years there was always a preference, but now it is simply a requirement.
Seriously, unless you're female or URM, don't waste your time applying anywhere in Canada.
