Huge discussion at WFA about ethics at Booth and the JF. But not much hope given the incoming editor team even more questionable. Referring to AER P&Ps as AERs on their CVs and promoting semi retirees to do-editors even though they have been out of research for a decade.
2022 JF Paper copies 1993 B journal paper

Ethics at Booth and the JF?? That must be a joke! Here another example: two contemporaneous papers doing the exact same thing, the one from Booth buddies gets in the JF, the one from the other folks goes to a B journal:
Do Investors Value Sustainability? A Natural Experiment Examining Ranking and Fund Flows. SAMUEL M. HARTZMARK, ABIGAIL B. SUSSMAN [JF 2019]
The impact of the Morningstar Sustainability Rating on mutual fund flows.
Manuel Ammann, Christopher Bauer, Sebastian Fischer, Philipp Müller [EFM 2018] -
If they cite, then it’s fine.

Of course, they don’t cite the b paper!

This is why I have retired as an economist and become an Azure Engineer. Far less bullshit and much more money. Notice that the B journal paper has had only 24 citations since 1993. Why do we need to replicate (oops plagiarize) it in 2022.
Bc it's not discovered in the hrm world before

The JF paper is better written

the problem is not those well-executed papers per see. the problem is JF slot is a super scarce resource in social science. If we focus on execution too much, they will squeeze out papers with truly novel ideas, which are not as easily executable as an effect you firmly know is there.
