92% of NFL players have CTE (according to BU researchers)

I think the COVID era proved pretty definitively that medical research is not objective science, but rather political propaganda.
And I don't like football, so I have no dog in this fight. The true incidence rate can't possibly be 90+%, just based on the sheer number of Hall of Fame players who are leading productive, normal, post-playing lives: Terry Bradshaw, Michael Strahan, Troy Aikman, Howie Long, Shannon Sharpe, etc.
Even OJ Simpson, believe it or not, if you watch his Twitter videos, is lucid and coherent. There are plenty of 75-year-olds who *didn't* have their heads battered for 20 years who aren't so lucky.
All that said, if you play tackle football above Pop Warner, there's very clearly a nonzero chance your brain will disintegrate. Not good!

How do you know that the level of brain damage that would qualify as "having CTE" in this study would necessarily be obvious? It may be that lots of players have fairly minor brain damage, such as would show up in a post-mortem examination, but are still quite functional.

It's a neurodegenerative disease; you can't possibly live with it for decades without obvious symptoms showing up eventually.

Of course, we already knew this. I’m not a fan of the National Commercial League, but I also don’t care if the players choose to play. I defend everyone’s right to make bad decisions - unless there are major externalities.
Except the farm system for this nonsense extends down to youth football. Having young children braining themselves isn't great for society.
Tackle and contact football should be outlawed until age 17.

If I could choose to play in the NFL for 10 years at a decent level, with all the perks that entails, and the only cost to me was that I might have some brain issues at 60. I would definitely go NFL. Imagine being able to retire at the age of 30.
why dont you take a look at median salary and career length before you blabber on the internet

We used to have gladiators as sporting heros. But thankfully society evolved past that. We will do the same with this crazy sport.

Du/m/b take. first, CTE is not the only cost. These guys live in constant pain the rest of their lives. I still have pain from HS hooping. It’s never going away. A college and pro football career is 100x worse.
Second, at 60 you still have decades left to live. You need a brain.
