Masullo claimed to get some sort of arithmetic Hodge theory and some sort of Poincare duality to work to solve Tate standard conjecture, BSD, RH. Conrad bought it at first but at some point disavowed. Masullo has bragged to a lot of people but can’t supply details (even cancelled on a meeting with Sarnak at the last minute). He sends title pages of work to other Stanford students like BZ and threatens them, they get fed up and call BS. Scholze and Bhatt are suspicious. He has a thesis defense in secret and still has an office at Stanford and is supposedly back by the AIM.
A proof of the Riemann Hypothesis on the horizon.

did that Chicago stats guy ever prove it? He submitted something on arxiv... It must be wrong, I guess.
You mean Polson? His attempt 1708.02653 seems to be at version 19 already (last update in April). It was even published in some obscure journal and then retracted after a mistake (a pretty elementary one) was found.
I have no idea why he's still working on it. It's almost as if he tries to look like a real crackpot.

BZ is invited to give a (zoom) talk at a prominent seminar series featuring luminaries like Bhatt and Scholze. He must be doing well. His talk is on 7/23. Tempted to register but will probably wait for the video.

haha that's too bad.

David "Renshaw" Hansen even more herd mentality than Chinese https://totallydisconnected.wordpress.com/
Alessandro, you jealous that DH invited BZ to give a RAMPAGE seminar? I watched BZ's seminar and it's pretty good. He even has new results with Poincare duality, something that you only pretend to understand.

Everybody is so jealous of that RAMPAGE seminar, oh boy, how am I going to sleep at night.

So this doesn't mean the thesis has been accepted and he graduated. And btw at first sight this seems substantially less ambitious then what it set out to be.
I thought that a thesis must have been accepted before it appears on SearchWorks. Is that not the case? Anyways, I'm guessing that the final version doesn't have the kind of results that were promised earlier.

I agree with you, however it is strange that the attachment (purl) is missing. Other students who graduated in August 2020 have the attachment in their SearchWorks record (sometimes with restricted access, but an attachment is visible). Perhaps, however, it is a purely technical reason and it will be added in the next few days. But at this point I feel that although with some delay, he managed to graduate. Good for him, it would have been an hard fall to get kicked out
