If you failed to land a tenure track job, don’t worry. Just find some interesting paper written by some nobody, ask him/her about the details of research execution, and then repackage the paper as yours. This is how Yue Zhang from Pitt got an R&R at JAR and landed her Baruch job. Here is the paper she scooped, https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=3344942

Two threads? Really? And this one was dead for three weeks...you guys must really be hurt.

Did not know this. But I personally know YZ and she is the nicest person on earth. I can't believe she would do this. Where is the other thread?

OK now I have read both papers. I don't think it is scooping if the dependent variables are different (disclosure vs investment, even though one could argue that these two could be related). Now, whether YZ paper merits RR at top 3 (given the repackaging) is a different question. Second, YZ paper is better executed with more discussion on the model and institutional details. Finally, it is on you for failing to get your paper published in 3-4 years since its first public circulation.

New settings and designs always get a rough ride / tough vetting. That doesn't give copiers carte blanche to grab the baton and sprint to the finish line.

This is completely nonsense. This is her dissertation, which is proposed at least 3 years ago. She got the Job offer before receiving JAR R&R.

Ask around and you will know it's true. The paper she scooped had been circulated over three years ago.

Total sour grapes by the person accusing YZ of poaching. I think this might even be an attempt to make the authors of Capkun et al. look bad it is such a transparently dumb argument.

It is either the coauthors or someone associated who failed to get a job offer from Baruch.
