Thanks for the link, bf35. I found a therapist who moonlights as a tax accountant. She pointed out that

An affiliated group of corporations shall, subject to the provisions of this chapter, have the privilege of making a consolidated return with respect to the income tax imposed by chapter 1 for the taxable year in lieu of separate returns. The making of a consolidated return shall be upon the condition that all corporations which at any time during the taxable year have been members of the affiliated group consent to all the consolidated return regulations prescribed under section 1502 prior to the last day prescribed by law for the filing of such return.

Partnerships aren't corporations, so they can't be part of an "affiliated group of corporations."

As used in this chapter, the term “includible corporation” means any corporation except...(6)An S corporation.

S-corps aren't includible corporations and thus also can't be part of an "affiliated group of corporations."

Therefore, Lisowsky and Minnis can't possibly have "consolidated parent tax returns" for partnerships and S-corps and Lisowsky and Minnis have never explained how they have consolidated tax return data for entities that cannot file consolidated tax returns.

Wiley (a multi billion $ corp), U Chicago, JAR, two external advisors, and ML found that the WB claims were unsubstantiated. Why do we also need to do this?

If you want to appeal to authority, they found that

...the description of the data and the sample in LM's article could be perceived as unclear and potentially misleading. In particular, it is unclear whether each observation or private entity in the original LM sample of corporate and partnership tax returns is making independent decisions, which we consider relevant for the paper's research question.

They did not find that partnerships can file consolidated tax returns. Because partnerships can't file consolidated tax returns.

Yes, the fraudulent journal, run by fraudulent colleagues of the fraudster, in whose interest it is to lie about the fraud so their journal doesn't look like a complete $h|tshow "found" there was no fraud. Two "independent" club members who allegedly have experience with the IRS data (as did fraudster Lisowsky) "found" no issues. Two "independent" editors who are Chicago PhD alums or co-author with CL constantly also "found" no issues.

That sounds right, huh. This is why there's this thread. It's easy to say you didn't find anything when you don't look or actively cover it up.

The fraud is proven.

Enron's "independent accountant" found no fraud. Madoff's "independent accountant" found no fraud. Both were total and complete frauds.

Side note: Wiley is used to academic journals in real fields, not fraudulent club journals. So yes they bear a burden, but you see in their rules they rely almost entirely on the assumption that the journal/editors are not frauds. Bad assumption here.

How do you explain the Bao et al fraud? They aren't even Chicago faculty and see that cover up!

You should present those arguments to your school. Tell them to not consider JAR in determining promotions.

Of course JAR should not be considered in promotion. The WB posted a note to this effect recently.

But it cannot be school-by-school. It must be academy wide. Hence this thread.

U Chicago accountants editing JAR publish the paper of a U Chicago accounting professor - bad. Paper is a fraud - bad. Editors do nothing - bad.

Not the first JAR scandal.

Bad model to have one department in permanent control over a journal - leads to entrenchment and scandals

JAR should not be on any list of reputable journals

Mikey's fraudulent dissertation was literally accepted by a Chicago colleague. They put some smoke and mirrors in since then, but this is effectively what still happens.
