The ASSA organizing committee is looking for grad students volunteers to monitor that the agreed-upon mask mandate is upheld during the conference. Volunteers will have their student registration fee waived and receive a gift card. Monitors will canvass conference rooms and premises (including hotel lobbies and bars) and ask non-compliant participants to wear KN-95 masks. Monitors will also report to the AEA those failing to comply after being given a warning.

Is this an RCT?

I am going to the meeting and am glad there is a mask mandate. But the idea of appointing little hall monitors is terrible. I am sure there will be lots of claims that they pick on specific people because of race/gender or whatever. And I look forward to some super-entitled super-self-satisfied little sh!t telling me to adjust the mask I am wearing properly just so he/she/it can have the pleasure of telling an older white guy what to do.
The people who made this decision need to spend a little time around the natural N*zis who will take up this offer.

"Monitors will canvass conference rooms and premises (including hotel lobbies and bars)"
Wait, you have to have your mask on even at the bar? But people not attending the conference may be having drinks at the bar. How will monitors be able to distinguish between the two groups?
