How hard is to get tenure in AgEcon? Any examples for new APs and soon to be JMCs of recent failures, where and why? I recall a case of a guy at UIUC that failed before at Maryland that has been discussed here before, but have no perspective of more recent cases.
-
Largely based on nepotism and whims of Dean's.
That guy formerly at UIUC had a solo JPE and multiple high quality AJAE articles, but was still denied tenure. This sad story speaks clearly of the status quo of the profession.

That's because he only had 1-2 publications. What do you expect?

It was fine to exaggerate it when you send it to funding agencies, but don't circulate the same unnecesserily-gigantic CV to fellow academics.
Ag econ people, pls don't embellish your CVs by dedicating three lines for each of the conference presentation your coauthors made. Any CV that is longer than 5 pages is overkill.
I'm pretty jealous of those that don't understand grantsmanship.

CVs are generally long because of grants, which regular economists generally don't have. I don't ever remember seeing others' presentations on a CV, though if real then that is silly.
