   We just work on projects that integrate with other projects, but its all a facade. It takes a long time to discover this, the system is so complex its opaque. After 7 months on the team, i realized it. Senior people never "explain the full system", which I thought was a culture thing. But its actually an insecurity about the uselessness of their work.

   And this is how all of society works. In a friend group of mine, a friend protrays himself as a big baller entrepreneur/day trader. He owns an 80k tesla. He also has almost no money and continually gas lights his GF that they are close to striking it rich. Other friends in the group look the other way, and he viciously rips people down that challenge his "status".

   And then SBF, epstein, and so on. All the way down society is like this

   The white collar class is grifting and rent seeking in these overbloated corporations. The real losers are the working class having to produce goods and services that all these yuppies are entitled to with their fake purchasing power mostly driven by loose monetary policy. The only thing that can break this cycle is a deep recession triggered by high inflation. Companies will be forced to become more efficient and get rid of useless people and projects.

   I realized this when I worked at a FAANG company five years ago. We had over 1000 people in corporate marketing. All of our marketing was done by ad agencies.

    except they can't. twitter SWE is basically broken now. they wanted to remove the pop-up when users aren't logged in, but they fired the guys who could do it, so what they got now is a popup that never finishes loading half the login options. the site is up because the previous guys built an extremely resilient system, but you can watch it slowly degrade now. Musk has already admitted that they'll probably need to recode it from scratch and he's started hiring again

    I actually completely disagree. Its the same thing as my company, engineers providng near zero value. They push code -> break production -> fix breaks. And this goes on all day. These "elite" engineers are just piling logic on top of logic. It takes years for their technical decisions to be understood. Companies are better off just firing everyone who hasnt produced value. The twitter hate is all fear mongering

    Think about Instagram and Facebook. They were already really good five years ago (IG) or even ten years ago (FB). Most of the business should be on autopilot. Reels, taken from TikTok, is the only innovation in recent years as far as I can tell.

    Amazon, Netflix, Apple everything was as good five years ago.

    I know Google is using MUM for search now. That's probably a big advance (from Pandu Nayak's blog post).
