Unless you are Norwegians, avoid Norway at all costs. They have a two-track systems: one for Norwegians, where there is no lower bar, one for foreigners, where there is no upper bar.

I feel sorry about the new recruits already. The guys must be desperate.
It looks like they've done a decent job with non-norwegian hires lately. Guess the true test is whether these people will stay at the department or not...
dont go there
no idea What are you talking about. why people distinguish those europe departments? They are the same except several ones in london.

I second this to 100 percent. Babysitting culture in the US is much more pronounced.
- Scandinavian in the US
Actually my experience in Scandinavian countries is that they babysit students much more than in the US (I worked and taught in both systems )
In my experience, this is wildly inaccurate.

Somewhat orthogonal to this thread, but more than 1 percent of the students have tested positive for covid since the start of the semester.
Unlike continental Europe, masks aren't obligatory in educational institutions in Norway or the rest of Scandinavia, I've seen on the news. Great job people, you'll spend a fortune on leave benefits.

Turns out the Norwegian strategy worked pretty well after all... Just saying.

NHH is a typical chill Scandinavian TT job where you can live life on coasting mode. However, you are stuck with mediocre colleagues and even more obnoxious and pampered students.
Mediocre colleagues? Pampered students? All true. What makes it a really terrible place is that they aren’t chill. The b-a-s-t-a-r-d-s just want you to churn out lots of papers. Output expectations are unreasonable.

There must be so many dissatisfied NHH faculty on EJM based on how often it is being discussed. At least compared to other Nordic schools.
Re. mediocre colleagues, i think this depends on field maybe? Like, the labor group with Salvanes, Loken, Willen, Bütikofer, looks pretty solid, and they have some interesting juniors coming in. But maybe they are very unpleasant to deal with? Cant judge the other groups since they're not in my field. Are we hating on all the groups or just some?
