Lol, try getting a taxi during peak hours in the rain or on the weekends with a couple of cranky kids in tow,, and you won't feel the same way. And by the way, it's worse around NUS compared to other parts of the city.

I also heard people say HK food is on par with Singapore, and I recently visited Hong Kong. Not really amazed. Cantonese food is gross, though the other food in Hong Kong was pretty good (Korean, Szechuan, Japanese, etc.)
I'll also point out my biggest issue with restaurants in HK: cleanliness. Wherever I eat, regardless of whether it's cheap or not, I expect the place to be pretty spotless. This is apparently not something HK restaurants really give consideration to. Even popular places look a bit shabby and dirty. Kinda off putting, but I don't know how it is in Singapore. Japan is great in that regards, obviously.
Singapore has no land and no crops so everything is imported. Forget about the fresh locally grown food. I do admire the fact that even with below-par ingredients from other countries, Singaporeans cook so well.

Whatever you say. People have different taste palettes, and I dislike Cantonese food (excluding some dim sum). It is not flavorful enough for me and seems quite bland. Szechuan, on the other hand, dumps spices onto food, which is perfect for me.

The ingredients are not below par. Singapore gets the best ingredients from Malaysia and Indonesia since Singapore has relatively more income to spare on food.
