Hi Ladies and Gentlemen,
I received an acceptance from AE. Since they are ranked #69 on REPEC, would that be a good signal for the job market? I am aiming for 100 to 200 rank and LACs.
They publish articles that belong in the literature. They don't publish everything. All articles are peer reviewed and many are cited - otherwise there would be no impact factor.
It is a good outlet. Not the first place to send a paper but they disseminate quality but not earth changing work. You can do a LOT worse than AE.
It is a good place for papers that make a smaller contribution.
Remember, having a pile of unpublished working papers can be a burdensome situation to manage. You need to focus on your most promising work and get smaller contributions into the literature without beating your head against the wall. You'll get sensible reviewing at AE.
Pubs in AE are better than many alternatives and nobody is going to suggest that it is elite. It is just a solid outlet for works that make smaller contributions. Many good researchers have publications there. It isn't AER but it isn't Romanian Economic Business Review either!!
Congratulations. It is a respectable outlet and will definitely help you in the job market.

Bros, let me share a secret. I once submitted and eventually published a paper in AE.
But here is what happened: About 8 months or so after submission, I received an email from the editor that he had read the paper and accepted it for publication (no referee reports) -- provided I would cite a few papers from AE in my article.
I was young and needed the money, so I did as I was told.
Anyone had a similar experience?
I think you have in backwards, given how many papers they publish a year, more like a 10% rejection rate.
I heard it has a acceptance rate of 10% despite having such a high submission fee.
Personally I will try similarly ranked journals that have no submission fee.
Please don't say bad things about Romania...
Romania is a wonderful and beautiful country with some amazing scholars whom I have been blessed to know.
I only picked that journal to make a point that AE has become established and the other is a regional economic journal that is not widely read nor well indexed and the articles within are therefore not well disseminated.
AE articles can be found in searches more easily than other journals.

Can you provide proof? Were these articles related to your paper?
Yes, me 2
