Even if this is the correct view politically, still at this point in time, on a practical level, for the Taiwanese it would mean to merge their island with a giant super-problematic place. Unless the Taiwanese plan to rule the rest of china like a colony, it wouldn't be a good deal for them. Risky to say the least.
