All my Taiwanese friends/relatives agree with me that:
If we vote to join Japan, 90% will vote for joining.
If we vote to join USA, 95% will vote for joining.
If we vote to join China, 1% will vote for joining, and thats CCP spy in Taiwan.
This is so sad for you, bro.

I bet the same proportions of people in these countries won’t let you join them. 90% in Japan, 95% in the US and 1% in China.
Im a Chinese from mainland. I never understand why many Chinese people care about Taiwan. It does not matter to me whether Taiwan will be part of China mainland in the future (also Hongkong). I just don't care. I would vote to let residents in Taiwan to decide their own identities. If you want to join Japan, then you should do that. I will feel happy for you.
Historically, ancient China never cared about Taiwan. The Qing Dynasty was interested in invading the island only because the last remnants of the Ming Dynasty forces settled there. And they occupied it for about 200 years (<10% of China's history) because Japan took it.
So I don't understand why Chinabros these days are so obsessed with Taiwan. I guess like the Qing government back then, they care more about uniting (thus defeating) what's left of the ROC forces than the land itself. I mean - had they wiped out the ROC forces in the civil war before they retreated to Taiwan, the PRC probably wouldn't be bothered with Taiwan at all. There's also the Japan factor - that not taking it means giving it to their archenemy. But the "historical duty" thing for the "glorious reunification" is just silly.
