   EJMR is a place where people can report sexual predators without fear of repercussions. It’s a place where people can talk openly about discrimination when they are junior (like me). With no such forum, I risk punishment for making my university look bad if I report such things. I have talked openly about discrimination and unfair treatment I experienced from hrm professors. I could not say any of it on EconSpark without hurting my professional career.

   And the only evidence the AEA has is the language EJMR uses and objectifying comments. Sorry, everyone objectifies. If 70% of users are male, there will be far more posts objectifying women than men. It is a natural consequence of the majority being of one particular gender.

   I agree with your post, but just because there are more men in the forum doesn’t mean they should get a pass. But that Wu’s paper was an exaggeration of epic proportion.

   A question to the "real" women in this thread: Do you think you are discriminated against during the publication process or not? Do you feel like you get AA treatment? I am just curious.

   I see your point. I guess I should change what I’m saying to what you said: the concerns with EJMR and objectification are overblown. Women being objectified on EJMR is not what is causing them to feel marginalized. The marginalization occurs in real life. Maybe the AEA should investigate how many women were asked what their husband did on the job market by top 30 schools like I was. Maybe they should look into cases where departments didn’t let jmcs nurse on the flyouts or limited the time they had to do so to the point that it was unhealthy. This happened to someone I know. Oh, right, nobody will ever post it on EconSpark. So what use is that? At least if I tell you here, maybe someone that previously thought there was no discrimination or challenges faced by women will understand just a bit more about the situation.

    It’s illegal no matter your gender. It depends on whether you think these people are asking because they assume you will follow your wife’s career no matter what, and thus willing to deny you a flyout because it’s unlikely that your wife can get a job in their s**tty town. It’s hard to know.

    From a dude: She is right when she asks "where have you been?" I have heard of this and posted about it having happened to a coauthor and have heard about problems with the same person from other women... and yet he continues to be an editor at a top journal. Hell, his own department won't leave him alone in a room with a woman -- at ASSA or departmental functions. So that is one of many cases.

    I'm not saying you're a bad guy (or that I'm a good guy deserving praise), but just... open your eyes -- as in stop looking away and choosing to read other threads. It happens, it's been mentioned here repeatedly; and, if you start listening... you will be surprised how much it comes up or is casually alluded to.
