Seasoned Aussiebro here. Base salaries are 3-5% higher compared to last year. Loadings continue to be paid by the top schools in areas like finance or accounting even after the pandemic (or especially considering that international students want to come back en masse). Of what I know rookies, depending on how internationally competitive they are and the school that makes them an offer, might be able to negotiate loadings between 10-60k, some even 70k. As a Senior Lecturer that would put you into the top 3% in the personal income distribution. That helps you participate in the great wealth creator that is the real estate market, which contributed to making the average Aussie three times wealthier than the average American and the wealthiest per capita. But hey, take that job in some sh$%&y college town in the middle of nowhere...
Australia: salary by rank?

Just to note, bus drivers start at 100k, and they started working at 18. They work less and have a chill life than most academics. Very little risk of getting laid off. Janitors make at least 80k.
- Uncle is a bus driverAssume G8, any insiders?
Lecturer — 120K?
Senior lecturer —140K?
Associate Prof — 160K?
Prof — 200K?Australia salary is in a range, 120K is around the medium for that range. I wonder whether the econ are at the medium or close to the higher end..
And that bus driver uncle will have a salary of 120k his whole life, whereas as a Prof you can make 300k. But hey, nice reference point.

how about Melbourne finance/accounting?
any insights?
I heard that they might pay generous loadings if you are competitive so that as a senior lecturer you earn in the range 170-200

Rookies are typically hired as senior lecturers with loadings depending on how competitive they are.

Rookies are typically hired as senior lecturers with loadings depending on how competitive they are.
This is incorrect for the G8: rookies always hired at Lecturer position. Right-to-Senior Lecturer is more common outside of G8.
However, most rookies would be hired at top of the lecturer pay band (with or without a loading). When promoted, you usually move to the bottom of the senior lecturer band and the pay bump is fairly small.

All fin/act rookies Melbourne has hired in the past 5 years were hired as Senior Lecturers. This is easily verified by looking at their CVs. At the other G8 that is different but that was not the question.
