Brazil bros what should we expect? He’s a complete moron but fiscally conservative. Is it looking good?
Bolsonaro will be the next Brazilian President. Great
-
Brazilian here. He is not bad.
His economic policy will likely be good, since he knows his limitations in economics and will have a good team. And in social issues he is not bad at all. The other candidates are getting into identity politics heavily. For example, when Bolsonaro's vice said that "broken families lead to a crime increase" (which is obvious) they acted like he said something scandalous that should not be allowed to be said.
His only problem is that he is too much pro-gun.

He's a lot smarter than you
He sure is a better populist con man who can convince the ignorant masses. But he sure is an inept policy measures with no tangible contributions to the country after 30 years of mediocre “service” in Congress

^yes the ignorant masses think criminals should be severely punished and that the Brazilian government should get rid of a bunch of inefficient public companies that have historically been used for corruption. Oh, that's so stupid right!!
It’s stupid in as much as one is so naive to believe he’ll accomplish any of that. That’s the stupidity in all of this. He’s just a showman and that’s what average people don’t get. Claims of radical change with no substance as to how to get there is the foundation of the populist rethoric, from left to right..

He won't be in charge of economic policy. He will only give a general direction.
Unlike his opponents, he recognizes he is no expert in Economics. -

You are not Brazilian, are you?
Increasing punishment for crime and privatizations, at the moment, are not hard to pass in the congress. -

Increasing punishment for crime and privatizations, at the moment, are not hard to pass in the congress.Very much so...Just think a little harder. PT will increase headcount and MDB will virtually maintain the same number of seats in Congress according to the pools, followed by PSDB. Same old congress, new executive. Everyone will be opposition, especially in the great divide created by recent rethoric, so there will be an colossal gridlock in Congress for every bill coming from the executive.
In public everyone will say “the security situation in brasil is absurd” in private they will say “we do not agree with the way the bill is written bla bla bla”. He will end up legislating via executive orders.
Not saying PT is any good for this country, but Bolsonaro is the same old leech and people refuse to realize this.
-
By the way, we all know how governing via executive orders turns out in Brazil. The answer to our political disgrace is in cleaning the uneducated and borderline criminal crongresman, and replacing them with serious folks. Unfortunately everyone got again allured by the populism and this will change nothing.

False. Research shows strong party discipline in the Brazilian congress, which is obvious given the incentives in place.

Didn't this guy say that military dictatorship was good? Don't get me wrong but having a south american running for president showing off guns and talking about the greatness of military dictatorships is a serious red flag in my books and it only gets worse if people try to oppose him after electing him.

https://www.press.umich.edu/pdf/0472111604-ch7.pdfLearn2read mate, the paper shows discipline to parties for the period of 1991-1998. It was a completely different situation from today, A LOT has changed, especially from 2014-today

Not much has changed actually. Can you point out any major change in our electoral system since then? The same incentives are in place.
Wishful thinking is nice, but sometime you have to wake up.

The guy has a bitter lunatic chicago phd that thinks every serious economist in Brazil is after him. He will not know how to handle the politics and will try too hard to prove himself, causing even more recession due to uncontrolled cuts in spending.
At the same time, people are fooling themselves if they think that Bolsonaro is not an anti-reform, extremally conservative guy. Just look at all the things he voted against/for in his 30 years in politics. Added to that, he has openly said very bad things about lgbt and women, he wants to double the number of justices in the supreme court and he wants to call a new constitution without the political class, but only with his own appointed 'intellectuals'.
How can someone not see he is exactly what Chavez was?
