I don't believe the part about confiscation of students' laptops. The university has no power to do that. Sounds fake to me. Unless you have a link or something more solid.

Post And those of us we are busting our balls. Working honestly. I don't know how many projects I killed because my analyses didn't pass robustness tests. And then how many times those same projects were published by some corrupt people with regressions that I know are impossible to produce. I hate all these people. I hate them. I failed tenure. My wife had to quit her job, we have had to uproot ourselves multiple times. I want all these fraud papers to come up. Data and code submission have to be mandatory. For survey data / for experiments there has to be clear documentation of how the data was collected, if needed there should be videos of behavioral tests. We should be harder on the authenticity of data and more lenient about "zero" results. Let's do honest analyses collectively. For proprietary data, it is impossible to impose. It is already hard to make those companies agree to share data to the authors at the first place. If you ask more, you will not even have a project. The new privacy law and regulation make it even less likely for those companies to share interesting data with researchers. It is basically a trade-off of a few questionable papers or no paper at all.
