Kudos to Rice, but I disagree that “black and tenured” is a poor metric. There is a ridiculous paucity of tenured black professors in finance. The empirical fact demands an investigation. Keeping black APs untenured is a huge stain on the field

This should highlight how "black and tenured" is a poor metric/summary statistic for how a school enhances diversity in this industry.

This should highlight how "black and tenured" is a poor metric/summary statistic for how a school enhances diversity in this industry.
Honest question - what % of APs are black and what % of tenured are black? My first guess would be that they are simply underrepresented in the industry as a whole, and so once again, "tenured and black" would indeed be a poor metric of what schools are encouraging diversity.
Let's say there is a big difference in %'s between black APs and tenured, how is it not possible that the very mechanism attempting to correct for underrepresentation is what is dooming the APs? If you give a decent AA candidate a fantastic placement with harder tenure requirements, you are going to see fewer black APs make tenure, and they will have to spend more time as an AP via dropping down the tiers of schools.
So is it discrimination or is it mispricing of black candidates?

This is why reasonable thoughts and responses are a waste of time on here. Guy raised a good question about mispricing and the response was for the butt hurt troll to log onto his vpn and do some dolphin/shark manipulating.
You can’t just shove people into an industry - they have to want to be there and they need to be “valued” appropriately for them to succeed.

I heard about an AA that got turned down at his school for tenure. He appealed the decision, took to twitter (I saw the feed), local news, etc. and circulated a petition alleging racism. In defending his research he pointed out that he published at exclusive journals (not held at any major institution) that have an acceptance rate of *only* 25%. His school is T1 research.
The Provost overturned the decision and his Dean made a statement about how he learned to consider the impact of research more broadly in tenure decision making.
So, now, how does that affect tenure standards? A Dean would be foolish to turn down an AA for tenure (the Provost won't support you and you face the twitter mob).

2ED7 raised a valid point. There is research on percentage of women at different levels in STEM fields. Apparently there is a large decrease at each stage - PhD to ap , ap to associate, associate to full. You could do a similar analysis with urm. Reasons for these changes may differ but right now we don’t know if what you claim is a issue is true.
