Can someone summarize Kolev and his saga?
-
First he live Bulgaria and family crush by cart.
Then he take wife, and she eat by wolf.
Life hard in Bulgaria after fall, not much potato and Great Bulgarian Yogur.
Kolev decide, enough is enough, and must be stronk and smart.
Will move to Great United Kingdom, and make name for self.
Island of UK not same as Bulgaria.
Can not take second wife by force like in great homeland.
Kolev sad.
Kolev become angry. -
Kolev posts frequently about England. As you will notice if you read his threads, he often creates what he thinks are incisive and clever remarks and then repeats them ad nauseam; in this case, he calls England “Bird Island,” but replace the BI with TU. He uses it so frequently that the word that begins with T was added to the spam filter.
Kolev was dismissed from Middlesex University for gross misconduct and sued for unfair dismissal as well as gender discrimination. He boasts frequently about his lawsuit, but he has not persuaded the tribunal of anything. (Here is the opinion issued after a preliminary hearing: https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/609113b2e90e076aab2a05f6/Dr_G_Kolev_v_Middlesex_University_-3304684-2020_-_SO_Judgment___Reasons.pdf) He has tried numerous procedural remedies, including making appeals, filing a misconduct complaint against the judge, and complaining to the ombudsman.
Some speculate that the gross misconduct was that he held a full time position at Middlesex while also holding a full time position at Coventry. Part of his claim for wrongful dismissal is that he was denied a sabbatical, which some speculate he would have used to teach at Coventry while collecting two paychecks.
Kolev claims expertise he does not have. My opinion of his litigation is that he is exceptionally unskilled, but he claims to have “an MSc knowledge of the law” based on some minor internet research he did. He takes great exception to the judge’s educational background - since law is a first degree in the UK, and the judge worked for the military, he thinks he is brighter than the judge. The legal claims he makes are all wrong. He almost never says anything right.
Because Kolev reacts badly to being teased, he is frequently teased. Some of the teasing involved posting erotic stories about Kolev and Boyko Borisov, who is apparently a Bulgarian politician. Kolev characterizes these as “ho//mo ra//pe fantasies.” (He uses slashes to evade the spam filter.) He accuses the author of these posts of libel and ra//pe, claiming he will prosecute them. This will not work.
Kolev has the delusion that all the teasing is done by one person who is a paid mod of this site. As far as I know, mods here are not paid. I am not a mod so I’m not sure. There are multiple people who criticize Kolev. I am one of them but other people do so as well.
He had promised to “torch” this board and prosecute the imaginary mod he thinks is being paid to tease him.

He seems to find “fighting the bot” to be a fun pastime. He copy pasted things and they live for a minute before the bot deletes them. I thought he didn’t understand there was a bot but at one point he told me he liked fighting the bot because he could post things that stayed up for a minute or two. He also sometimes says things like “I’ll skip my movie out to stay in and fight with you.”
He’s an unusual guy.

Honestly, only T\\//rd Island re//ta//rds of third world origin start their personal opinions with "Honestly".
He's a good guy that's prone to paranoid delusional thinking (e.g. believing tgat there are is a legal conspiracy against him, and that any criticism of him on ejmr are posted by a single mod).
Honestly this place isn’t healthy for him. I wish he’d move on.

EDHEC did not treat me very well from the very beginning. In my year, they extended offers in finance to me an a womyn. Because allegedly I was very independent and mature, they sent me to the Gulag (aka Lille) to teach a course of 600 Masters, and because the womyn "needed help" they sent her to chill under the palms in Nice in the company of the other senior finance aristocracy. I still have in my gmail the email from RG (if you know the scene you would know who this was) in which he explains to me the (misfortunate) situation.
And no kidding, this is how a senior friend of mine from Nice (PMB if you know the scene you would know who this was) was referring to us in Lille: "Comrades from the Gulag".
Nice is a resort, so apart from the obvious amenities like palms and sea and beaches, everybody speaks English.
Lille is the opposite, there are no amenities whatsoever, only screaming from the top of their lungs drunk french kids -- I used to live in the very center, I never got much sleep there. I have seen nowhere on earth anything like this: When french kids get drunk, they march the streets and SCREAM from the top of their lungs so that they wake up everybody, on purpose. And the police does not do anything about this. It is some national mass men//tal illness.
Also nobody speaks English in Lille. Like my own doctor did not speak English, I had to explain with sign language when I needed medical help.
You follow so far?
Hi Kolev, why did you left EDHEC.

The story carries on, I was just checking whether you re interested because it takes me lots of typing.
So I am holding the front in the Gulag, teaching finance to 600 students... I was the only resident finance faculty, so I was sort of "head of department of finance in Lille," had a secretary pretty much for myself, etc..
But on the second year they started sending me stern letters that I am not publishing in top journals. I think they were requiring 1 top publication in 2 years, where top is meant JF, JFE, RFS + JFQA and Man Sci.
So after 3-4 years, they held something which they called "tenure evaluation," and RG and some other guy that I have never met before (from other faculty) were EXTREMELY rude. Which rudeness came to me as a shock because we were sort of "friends" with RG, we went out for dinners when I visited Nice, he even drove me back to my hotel 2-3 times, etc.
I had I think 1 second level, and 3 third level publications in the CNRS list. Or maybe 2 second level and 2 third level. So apart from the rudeness, they declared that I have not published in a top journal (first level), so they are not giving me "tenure".
Their "tenure" is a joke, because in France you have tenure after 1 year on the job regardless of what your employer tells you. But more to the point they said that they are decreasing my salary by 10k, and increasing my teaching by some 70 hours...
And at this point I thought enough is enough, and I told them that we are parting ways. Initially they threw a tantrum, there was one fella, SG, very nasty piece of work... So this SG was head of faculty, or head of research, head of something. So he was telling me: "You have failed tenure, so now you will teach one gazzilion hours and we will pay you 10k less, and you have no choice." To which I told him "Yes, I have a choice, I can walk off, which is what I am doing." There were some 2 months of high tensions, but at the end I think they found somebody to replace me -- this is what they were freaking out, who will teach the 600 students in Lille -- so they became more cooperative.
We signed something which has special name in French, if you tell me the name I will remember, but the meaning is "amicable separation" where both you and your employer agree that you part ways in a friendly manner, they paid me some 10-15k euros as a bye bye sweetener, and importantly I got the right to get 2 years of my net salary by Pole d'Emploi, if I do not get another job.
And of I went to T\\//rd Island.
Thanks

If you have any news about how and what is going on now at EDHEC, I am interested to hear.
I went to spy on their web some 1.5-2 years ago, and I noticed something very interesting. 1) I could recognise very few people, so yes, many left. 2) They have introduced a very reasonable model where they hire some people who publish a lot, and also some people who do not publish that well (I presume for teaching). In particular I saw a lot of young colleagues that graduated less than 3 years ago and without any remarkable publication, and they were already Associate Professors. I guess this is what a school needs to do -- you get somebody who is teaching well and generating money, you try to keep them.
Also, RG resurfaced somewhere in Canada, so he might have come back from his short retirement :P.
Thank you. Very informative. I guess in 2017 almost entire department left and they become little more cautious

oh no :(
they told you you weren't meeting standards :(
It's so funny to see you, the person who can barely post without trying to evade the filter to make vicious personal attacks, complain of rudeness. What hypocrisy.

The difference is that I am rude with sub//hu//mans like you. This is what worms like you are made for, for HRMs like me to step on worms like you.
And they were rude with a top HRM scholar, which is sort of unacceptable.
There are not many people meeting the standard of 1 JF every two years, and those who meet the standard work for Harvard and Chicago for half a million per year.
