Lion of the Desert
Great Escape
Lawrence of Arabia
Can we begin a list of best all-time military/war themes movies?
-
War comedies:
Kelly's Heroes
The Americanization of Emily
What Happened In the War, Daddy?
1941
Father Goose
Donovan's Reef (not a war movie, but a war veterans' movie)
Good Morning Vietnam
Dr. Strangelove (a "Cold War" comedy)
The Russians Are Coming, the Russians Are Coming (another "Cold War" comedy)
King of Hearts (debatable to call this a comedy)
The Heroes (1973)
The Secret of Santa Vittoria
M*A*S*H (the movie, not the series)
Catch-22
Operation Petticoat
Mr. Roberts (and there was a sequel, 'Ensign Pulver')
...probably should include 'To Be or Not To Be' (original 1942 version)
Operation Mad Ball..I will not include 'The Great Dictator' - it has a classic and justly famous scene, but I found overall it really dragged, wasn't nearly as good as (for example) 'City Lights' or 'Modern Times.'
