Make more than APs in business school
Canadian plumbers

Some of my high school friends who now work as welders and make more than 140k a year. Flexible hours too. They choose to work a lot over the weekend too.
To be honest, the average Canadians actually don't even need to go to university for a sweet comfortable life. But many are blind-sighted and got scammed into going to university. Higher education is a joke here. Go to trades school instead. Higher demand for those type of jobs and start making great money in early 20s.

I think that's a dream society, where people choose their occupation based on all the non-wage factors. Too many people go to university these days and enter professional occupations, have a miserable time, and end up becoming fitness instructors or small business owners in their 40s.
I still wouldn't choose to be a plumber because no way to work from home.

Got scammed? Lol please. It is all paid for. You also make it sound like University grads would like to work as welders. Lol fuk no. You can't build an economy on welding and plumbing. These people make money because the gov protects them and young people don't want to do that kind of work. If you changed the dynamic, their salaries would plummet.

You're also forgetting that apprentices don't make that much money to begin with. The plumbers that make bank are the ones who are self-employed and do difficult jobs. Firefighters and police officers also can make a lot of money. It's because they're unionized, entitled and the governemnt always gives them what they want. The plumbers, welders, etc. are also protected just like the doctors. They band together and ask the gov to legislate hourly rates and demand specialized certifications to be able to practice. The whole thing is a farce and consumers get screwed. You could call an electrician to change a light in your garage and he'll charge you 120/hr...

Canada is indeed a very depressing country. I came as an immigrant in the 90s and things have changed for the worst:
a) The quality of immigrants we get even those who are so called skilled is pathetic. Most end up working survival jobs, drive trucks or end up clipping coupons on GoTransit working in banks downtown who pay them crappy salaries. To see their dreams crushed on the pretext that Canada is a land of milk and honey spun by Canadian government spin doctors is heartbreaking.
2) The whole system is geared towards rewarding mediocracy. This stems from lack of culture heritage and reliance on the nanny state, which intrudes every aspect of life.
3) You will never be able to save for anything and going into debt is the norm.
4) The food quality is horrible from tasteless produce and even basic things such as coffee. Most of the food is imported and is just bad. I recently went to Australia and even the McDonald's tasted better.
5) The weather is gloomy, cold and brings misery for 8 months of the year.
6) Travelling within the country is very expensive.
7) Public transit is a joke. If you see Toronto's subway map you would know how bad it is.
8) Taxes are steep and arbitrary.Don't take me wrong. If you are from a poor country and planning to live on government assistance, Canada is the best country in the world to be a leach. But if you have self respect and work hard, it is probably the worst country in the world to be in as there are much better alternatives.

When the oil industry implodes, and it will, this country is done with. All that will be left is a bunch of overpaid police officers, firefighters, plumbers and a legion of government workers protesting in the streets that their salary hasn't gone up.
Without oil, Canada < Cuba

That city is one of the most depressing places I've ever been, if you're not making 150k+ your life is trash.
Oh, what a great "global city" that celebrates "diversity"! You too could make 45k a year, never be able to afford a middle of the road house because it costs 25 times your annual income, and live in a city that demonizes every cultural tradition other than western liberalism!
