It is common for feminists and women's studies people to consider domestic violence to be a gendered crime, another example of the patriarchy brutalizing women, etc. I in no way said or implied that DV against women is any less serious in light of this finding. I've never met a feminist who would discount female-male abuse - have you? And I'm not sure how male-female domestic violence isn't those things you mentioned. Sounds like a "victory" over a straw woman to me, but maybe I've just been lucky enough to hang out with more sensible feminists.

I claimed there were a great deal of feminists and women's studies people who are prominent in their field who view DV as a gendered crime with women as the victims and men as the oppressors. I don't "hang out" with them, but nevertheless they exist and have influence in academia, law-making, among politicians, etc. Ever hear of the Duluth model, which assumes that DV is perpetrated by men and patriarchal in nature? It is a cornerstone of feminist analysis and has been influential in legal and judicial systems all over the Western world. The Duluth model is not fringe feminism at all. The finding that women are more commonly perpetrators of DV than are men is clearly relevant to the inaccurate and discriminatory nature of the popular Duluth model and many of the things related to it.
