Even a top 25 university is smart enough to try not to waste an offer on an applicant who has a fellowship at top 7.
Given that admission results are a crapshoot these days, I'm not surprised with anything. I've seen people get rejected at T25 and get accepted with an amazing fellowship at T7, so letters and grades dont strictly predict the outcome. At this point I'm just going to wait and see what happens.
How did the T25 place know about the T7 admission? Do schools share such information?
Its not the best paid. A friend of mine gets around 45k at columbia GSB by doing simple TA ship.
Two quick comments:
(1) In real terms, UChicago stipend is the best in the world. It is close to HBS BizEcon stipend in nominal terms but Chicago is much cheaper than Cambridge. Especially housing. Also, UChicago's neighborhood, Hyde Park, is much better, safer and developed than before and rents/property prices are still reasonable.
(2) The program has been reformed and now cohorts are much smaller and everyone pass the core exam. Having such amazing faculty and one of the best business schools in Finance and Econ in the country just crossing the street and not being the best program in the world was counterintuitive. Chicago numba 1.

I think one can pull of 45k at NYU as well doing TAship. But adjusting for COL Chicago beats both NYU and Columbia.

You need to have been accepted to the Econ of Finance program first but decisions come out the end of this month, I believe. My understanding is that there isn't much difference in the curricula between the Finance and Financial Economics degrees. (Access to Econ faculty the differentiating factor? More emphasis on theory in your dissertation with the latter? Better shot of placing into Econ departments given more theory-heavy research?)

So if I didn't hear from either finance or econ program now, there is no chance of hearing from financial economics?
Run away from this place while you still can. Even 100k stipend isn't worth ruining future life/academic dreams. This place stinks. No advising. No help. Several smart students end up under-placed or placing in industry despite their potential early on 6-10(!!!) years back to the start of the program. Sure, industry placements are fine, but the goal of PhD programs should be to train average students who have potential to be able to move on in academic career. There is barely any real support from faculties. Good luck finding advisors who will guide you through any research here.
Reminder: if your goal is to go to industry then don't waste time on a PhD. The PhD is only crucial if you want to be an expert witness in litigation cases. Even if you entered a PhD program to get the visa to go to a country and eventually get a industry job you should remember that once you complete the first year (which gives you a masters degree at Chicago) you can and should apply right away for industry jobs and let them handle your work visas. Wasting time on the PhD will only destroy your time and valuable work experience (which is 1 million times more important than any PhD degree) which destroys your value in industry and your future wealth.
