This is particularly true for econ departments under B-Schools, like PKU GSM and THU SEM. Econ people need to compete with juniors from other departments within the school for promotion. For full professorship, the competition can be much more fierce.
PKU GSM econ department: 1A 2B. But it's only the very minimum to even submit a case. If that's all you got, you are not likely to get it.

PKU GSM and THU are probably looking for people more senior and more productive than you. Given that their positions are quite limited, even if you get in, you will simply join the others in competition. Between SJTU and Fudan, Fudan should be easier, as they do not have many with good records yet. And your field matters.

Things are changing very rapidly. In 6 years, lots of things can happen. In particular, schools will keep raising publication standards. The best to hope for is that there will be a better domestic market.

For discussion, top Chinese schools do need good seniors, but more for ones that have a couple of top publications and have been tenured at decent universities.
2A+2B publication is decent, but not senior enough to supervise or lead juniors. Some oversea junior has returned for 3 years, now has 4 A, and is probably still in the process of getting tenure at one of the two.

As for the 2A + 2B economists, I think you are overly optimistic looking when you look at the current Associates with weak publication records. Those promotions are from another time and from a different standard. Honestly, it sounds like you are off to a great start - congratulations. Unfortunately, I think two things are working against you. GSM, Tsinghua, PKU, and even Fudan are not actively recruiting but looking for special opportunities, especially at the senior level. However, if you are willing to go into the domestic track and get paid per publications there could be opportunities as some schools within those 4 universities. At SJTU, you may be able to get some traction at Antai. The second big thing working against you is you VLRM PhD. The sad reality in China is that pedigree matters, and what's worse is your undergraduate pedigree still matters. If you didn't come from a very top Chinese undergrad or from some good overseas school, this will be tough to overcome.
However, you may have some luck trying the next tier of reformed schools like SHUFE, XMU, or SWUFE. But something seems off with the first two as their good junior and senior seem leave as soon as they can get an outside offer. SWUFE people seem more content.
Perhaps the best thing to do is keep pushing out good publications, try to move up overseas, attend conferences and network in China. Then in a few years get a part time Chiang Jiang scholar type of position. One thing is clear in China you want to come in as strong as possible and with as many government distinctions as possible.
if you are one of the insider with the current CV, there is a chance you can be promoted as an associated (not guaranteed in GSM and THU) However, associated is not tenured in both places. Full prof==tenure, even in SHUFE. However, your cv cannot make a full prof. case in SHUFE, it can buy you an associated in SHUFE for sure if you want.
In general, do not be silly and still believe that top schools in China take some field or even top 5 publications as treasure. That was true in 2000-2005. It is 2014 now. If your research does not match their team, with the current cv, you do not have an interview for AEA in GSM or THU. A position (at any level) in GSM and THU is as competitive as the same position in a US top 40 school, NUS, HKU and CUHK.
