Claudia here - a request for EJMR

Hi, Claudia here. I would appreciate a truce with you all.

I will chill out about EJMR and not help with any efforts to hassle the website. I will also chill out on Twitter and social media about problems in the economics profession or strongly push back on economic policy or economists I disagree with.

On some level, I appreciate efforts here to call out bad behavior in economics. You may have noticed I trashed my career with my "disgrace" post. I wrote it for the many students and research/assistants who have come to me for advice on dealing with and healing from harassment and exclusion. They are largely women and people of color, including Asian, Hispanic, Black, and Native American. Plenty of white men too.

Attacks by EJMR come up frequently in my mentoring though it is more often faculty or supervisors. I am trying to do the best I can to make our profession more welcoming. That includes welcoming every one of you. You clearly think I am an idiot and a horrible person. Fine, you have a right to your opinions. I am not perfect. I will be the first to admit that. I don't need your threads to remind me.

So carry on but try to leave me out of it. I will give that courtesy too.

Sorry for that. This EJMR - CS war is nonsense and was getting increasingly crazy. Econ and academia is getting worse with every passing day, we are full of crooks and corruption, a recession is hanging over the heads of industry bros and broettes, let's not make each other's lives even worse with internet shytposting contents. We should just stick to what we are best at: keeping Econ from dying.

Honestly I think this is a great step in the right direction. Instead of viewing us as an enemy, view EJMR as the pulse of the field. Theres lots of crazy, but also expression of true feelings in this field which are worth noting.

Im not a fan of yours but I respect this move, even if its superficial.

Claudia, you are a good person, and this message is an additional piece of evidence of this. I'm sorry to see people mistreating you on this website. I wish EJMR could get rid of its aggressive excesses and cut some slack to people like you. There is much potential in a website like this if we just avoid attacking good people on a personal level.
