Aren't they an AFA school though?

Maybe I am unfamiliar with the FMA market. I thought the dividing line was between low R1, 3:0 (initially) schools at the low end of AFA and 2:2 research oriented schools (I think they also have a phd program?) at upper end of FMA. Quick google showed they paid rookies about 175k in 2018/19, so should be 200ish today.
Happy to revise my priors - what's the upper end of FMA like?
No way it’s at the upper end of FMA, considering teaching load, research support, salary, etc.
2-2 upper end of FMA

2-2 with two preps. Serious researchers wouldn't land there.
Yes, if s/she has other offer. What if s/he does not get any offer? Check how many applications Clemson received. I guess more than 40+.
That means s/he is not a serious researcher because s/he has no offer from a research-oriented department.

We are ranked at a similar level at Clemson in an undesirable location and we don't pay that much. We received about 250 applications. Of course, some of those are frivolous.

Ole Miss? You posted before FMA when every candidate was applying, Clemson posted in March when most were done with the market.

Schools at the upper end of FMA typically go to AFA too. These schools offer 3:0 or 2:2 with one prep and pay 215-220ish today. They’re often better in terms of research input/output, teaching load, pay, etc. than many AFA schools at the lower end that do not go to FMA (many of European schools fall into this category).

Nope. Their teaching load is 2:2 with 2 preps and they typically don’t go to AFA. And their pay is not as high as 220ish. Also, their research input/output is not comparable to that cohort.

Fair. I think you are thinking of U of South Carolina or Florida State, right? Still, Clemson is a nice place over all and I think they're on the upswing.

Several 3-0 schools interview at AFA: Tennessee, Iowa State, Oklahoma State, Auburn, Alabama, etc

Revealed preference doesn’t support your honest opinion.
2-2 sounds better than 3-0 to be honest.
You can always do 2-1 if you don't like 3-0
This. I didn’t say this because it was too obvious to me. But BE38 doesn’t seem to understand this because s/he never had such option.
