Cond. Accepted AER article distorts history to get DID right

Dear AER team and BU/Fudan team,
On Monday I will be publishing a Substack article, "Shuo Chen & Yiming Cao: The Men Who Made History," on my Substack. This article will do a deep dive into the research misconduct as outlined in the email below, which I sent you over 6 months ago. I will be circulating this article primarily to Chinese media and Chinese universities.
I would like to offer all parties a window to comment for the next 48 hours, to say whatever you want to say, if you wish to say anything. Both the AER team and the BU/Fudan team can email me separately, or you can coordinate your responses if you want. Or you can ignore my request for comment. My article will be published this weekend in any case. I am happy to talk further if you want to have a dialogue.

taisu zhang is the most balanced post here but unfortunately thru his careful eye he has created a monster. ejmr has no nuance anymore and will latch onto anything as fraud or cheating which is a much more serious accusation than a st00pid but honest error. paper should be retracted but no need to call fraud. why would anyone willingly make such an easy to catch error and risk their whole career?

He made an academic critique, it doesn’t matter whether he’s angry or not. If Chen and Cao did not distort history in the original version of the accepted paper, they should address Zhang’s comments publicly.
