"Especially the discrepancies between the Danish and the American interpretation of tenure will have significant consequences and the issue has been heavily debated internationally as is the case in this thread from econjobrumors.com."

Whilst CBS's top management definitely made gave mistakes forcing it to lay off people, the letter is ridiculous and signed by mostly a bunch of losers. Essentially, CBS built up a department that is of questionable quality and generates little interest from students. So should CBS keep it alive and make savings by cutting other more successful parts of the school? That's what the latter implicitly argues. And most of those that signed have probably never even been to Copenhagen let alone CBS. It's a sad story already, why make it any worse?
And, no, I have no links of any sort to CBS.

OK, latest news. No firings after all. A bunch of 60 plus year olds took voluntary early retirement deals, and the rest of the "deficit" will be made up in other ways. Basically a bunch 60+ year olds get a cushy early retirement deal. The whole thing has been political posturing at its best/worst, depending on how you see it.

Being a mid-career academics, I'd see this as a warning, and would try to move away as soon as possible.

That is not surprising, the Imperial college in London fired the most unproductive part of their business dep. when they organized the Tanaka business school, tenure is a relative think. I do not see the problem. If someone does not do the research part of the job, why not? They occupy places that others deserve more. Economists should be specially aware of economic inefficiencies, tenure is to protect academic freedom, not laziness...

That's why students' satisfaction at the Imperial college in London is low. Teaching skills are crap and the the Imperial college doesn't care. As long as ranking are good, there are limitless opportunities to shortchange students.

I stopped considering CBS as an option after this crisis
So to update you on the situation at CBS, there is no endowment and hence no cushion when there is a financial crisis which may be linked to other larger problems such as a decrease in GDP, macroeconomic instability or political changes in a small open economy.
