De Loecker and Eckhout go on all out attack
-
They are mostly right though.
http://www.janeeckhout.com/wp-content/uploads/Thoughts.pdfHow do you figure?
Well, the arguments about markups in the most recent draft make sense. Also, they admit they made a mistake:
"In the first draft of this note, we were mistaken about the time line of the use of SG&A in analyzing market
power. Traina (2018)’s work on SG&A and ours were conducted simultaneously and independently. He has not
copied our analysis of the role of SG&A as we mistakenly claimed initially." -
Who is no gooding this? Claiming someone stole an idea with no evidence (and apparently emails contradicting it) is outrageous behavior.
They are mostly right though.

I obviously agree. But they mentioned a meeting and it seems more like a misunderstanding. Also, they admit they made a mistake-should we shoot them or something?

Why even mention it? They have the clear power advantage and a grad student is in no threat of stealing a paper from them. Even worse that it ended up being a capricious mistake.
