In an information age, with such a learning attitude, they have no patience and curiosity (and reading capacity) at all to handle information wisely.
Discontinuity in student preparedness?

"Information Age" is a misnomer. These "digital natives" have no information at all, cannot find information, and cannot analyze information.

In one assignment my students have to plot some data from FRED (e.g. US unemployment rate) but I already started receiving emails asking if they could find a source with a similar graph and use it. An average economics senior student cannot use Excel or even FRED to make these plots.

I think what happened is that during covid students realized they could get away with anything. The slightest annoyance or inconvenience could be turned into a social Justice cause and reason to occupy the president's office. So now they don't have to do anything. If a test is too hard they just complain and expect that they won't have to do it.
The smartest students send a student of color too represent their grievances, like for a difficult Exam or project or something like that period these folks are invincible and expect the administration or faculty to cave instantly.
I had a two-for a come to me last semester saying that she didn't feel her grade represented her effort fairly and wanted it changed. She did not expect me to be ready with chapter and verse on every single bit of her work for the entire semester . After 20 minutes of reviewing line by line she finally backed down, But clearly she was not expecting that and had planned for me to acknowledge My privilege a front end that background without Further argument

I'm pretty sure at least some of it is this: these students were kept out of high school during covid. Remote teaching isn't as effective, especially at the high school level. So these kids need remedial high school at this point.
My hope is that younger covid-affected generations "catch up" to a pre-covid high school graduate level before they make it to college. If not, we're in for a rough 12ish years.

No, big corps are apathetic when times are good, when the money dries up they cull like no one.
