for real?
Yes. It's higher than in most UK universities. At least in Europe, no one joins academia to make money. It's mostly people who don't care about money (nerdy intellectuals), or people with family wealth.
Don’t forget your deans supplement. So, it could be a lot more at Cambridge but it’s not guaranteed
Something must be wrong here. I know several full professors outside top 4 who are paid >100k. Perhaps the market supplement are excluded in the figure?
They are. You are not allowed to advertise market supplements. And again, professor grade 11 at cam is associate prof. Think 100k GBP+
You are allowed to advertise market supplements- maybe not the amount, but their existence is in the advert. What they don’t tell you is that those are pretty fickle, and get pulled for arbitrary reasons at any time. I’d hope Cambridge is better about this than most, but Oxford sure isn’t (and the shadiness of London schools is well documented on this website)

I have told you the pay. If you want to know more apply and see if you make the cut. I used to believe this EJMR crap till we made an offer thinking we were going to blow a top UK place out of the water. Turns out the money difference was not that big.
Me: top non UK European place
^ there’s so much heterogeneity in the UK that it’s hard to figure out if the market supplement is really competitive or not. I don’t know about Cambridge. I do know we blew someone out of the water at UCL, I was surprised. They have… not nice things to say about market supplement fleckery there. As for Oxford, I have family who are there and it really depends, but their Econ department just does a lot of weird crap.
I once found a list online of the numbers of Cambridge faculty across the whole university, excepting medicine, with actual salaries above some statutory standard like 100K.
There were surprisingly many in the 150k-200k range (possibly because of head of department supplement and things like that, beyond regular salary) but very few above 200k.
