What does it mean to "blow someone out of the water"?
Does Cambridge really pay £65,578 to full professors??

I am living in Cambridge and my neighbour is a science (I am not going to disclose more details) professor in Cambridge. He and his wife live just live next to me. When I was doing re-innovation for my house, I was persuading them to change their ugly pergola in their garden. The cost in total would be around 3K and they consider it about three days and the lady came to me say that's a lot of money to them and they just cannot afford it. In addition, one day she came to me and say that it is not good to get food delivery so often (I get about 3-4 times a week) as they are so expensive. She said they can only afford to get food delivery once a month.
That's a Cambridge professor in science. They should have lived in a much better life but sadly, they live in poverty. I feel sad for them and I feel worried about my future. I need to leave this country asap as this is a dead end. I do not want to end up my life as miserable as the nice couple.

Yes that's the official pay scale. No one gets paid by the official scale unless you're hopeless and cannot publish half decently
This is not true. Official scale is what most of us get. You can only get market supplement if you move here from the US or a super big boy in your discipline. I am a insider and Cambridge is a terrible place in terms of pay.
