Will AEA do something about Randy Wright? He is ruining the profession and needs help.
Doleac adds Randy Wright to the list

I have mixed feelings about this. I am against destroying someone without hard evidence. But I’ve first hand witnessed the inappropriate behavior of RW for years, and I have heard many stories from people I trust.
It there is anyone fitting for trial by Twitter, it’s Randy Wright.

It’s been known for years - he’s a creep. But hard evidence is hard to show so he persists.

What she is doing on twitter *is* harassment.
Just some rambling impressions as a female economist, who is most definitely not on twitter:
The idea that there is some special problem in economics— I've just not seen it.
Right, I'm sure something obviously wrong happened somewhere; we are a fallen people. But some of these situations seem like an unfortunate brew of extreme awkwardness, mixed signals, etc. Some of us have above-average social skills and just generally sense and avoid weird situations; some people just can't figure this out, and some even seek weird situations and drama.
This is unfair, that every man needs to be looked upon with suspicion. And there's the clear "chilling effect" or whatever. I've been treated fairly and with respect, and really appreciate my male and female colleagues through the years. What they're doing is making sure there is no (potential very beneficial) interaction for future economists.
No one should applaud the mob justice, self-laudatory witch hunt. It can be very obviously weaponized, and it's just not right.
This is all so toxic and sad.

He is not a creep he is a sexual offender. He persists not because there is no evidence but because he is protected by his buddies who are all in positions of power (eg Rogerson Kircher Menzio Moscarini Shimer Guerrieri) & because institutions such as NBER turn a blind eye.

Is that an argument? I know it's hard to believe for you, but not all of us get off on ruining people. This is all sick. Why should we let a few unhinged people on twitter tell us what we are experiencing and who should be burned?

In most societies, women engaged in gossip. Gossip has a clear social function — sustain cooperation in a community. Of course this works only if the community is small enough and so most of the time the gossip and the credibility of the gossiper can be established. JD taking traditional female role out of context. Not very smart tbh

Great analysis, which will be lost on those here who are apparently only out for blood.

I think we can find a happy medium between career crucifixion via Twitter and the AEA (or whatever authority) investigating this stuff themselves and having his friends and coauthors run the investigation.

I am starting to like Jennifer Doleac -- and I have never even met her! However, she needs to mention KURT MITMAN. I also want her to start a twitter thread on seniors who abuse their position by demanding co-authorship on papers that are nothing to do with them, out of their research area, etc and / or give out (or withhold) research money based on prejudices, etc. Basically, all bullying and harassment needs to cease. Jennifer, we are waiting on you! Don't let us down! I have names for you!

She has a good momentum so I support her. Yes, she dropped the ball with those guilt by associations. Those were complete nonsense. But if she 80% right and 20% nonsense, even that's great for the profession.
And I am a man.Throwing PD and the guy whose career she keeps trying to end in with AF is gross and disqualifying.
