   Computer scientists and mathematicians come here to laugh at economists.

   We all know the math and CS ugrads come here to troll because that is how they deal with their insecurities.

   Economics likes to call itself the most quantitative and "smartest" of the social sciences

   We don't just call ourselves the most quantitative social science, we ARE the most quantitative social science by any objective measure you can possibly think of. There is no point in even debating this.

   but it cannot hold a candle to the weakest of all natural sciences (earth science, biology...)

   How are we supposed to predict something that has never happend like this before? Don't you people think before you write cr/ap like this? Also, predicting a financial crisis is just a tiny little part of macroeconomics which is itself just a subfield of economics as a whole.

   I don't know anything about that, but it is by no means obvious that providing eyeglasses to kids helps raise literacy rates. It could just as well be the case that it doesn't do anything at all.
