Goodness me, those 24 leavers in 10 years would make up a top 5 department in Europe.
Not really. I see only a handful of names that would get offers from LSE, UCL, LBS, Zurich or CREI.
Apparently Max Kasy is looking to move out from Oxford... Shame, that's a brilliant guy for local standards. That didn’t last long! They are advertising a post for someone to take over his college teaching...
Has he got a buyout?
Sounds like a buyout, but if he's leaving then not so much...
The Fellow will receive mentoring from a senior academic staff member, and will be offered a carefully tailored package of professional development.
What that package actually means is free food as a form of payment. Clearly will attract the top candidates in the market.
It gets better:

The successful applicant will be appointed on Grade 6 of the Oxford salary scale (currently £29176 - £34804 per annum) and will have the option of becoming or remaining a member of the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS)
34k clearly attracts the best teachers in the world. Without a doubt if you go to Oxford you have the best undergraduate teaching in the world. Salaries trending up at Oxford.
Oh wait, they offer access to pension! Didn't know that was a thing at jobs ... this will be the most competitive post giving a never before seen benefit

They're advertising for a post doc position of course the salary is low... Although even the career development fellow is less than the average UK analyst's starting salary
Why don't parents boycott sending their sons and daughters attending Oxford? It's like a firm selling expensive products after buying cheap from developing countries exploiting child labor.
Once I met one of those college tutorial lecturers who taught at one of the colleges. The person had to commute over 1 hour from the outskirts of the city because with the salary it was impossible to afford any decent accommodation close by. Oxford is the most unaffordable city in the UK. He tried to save on everything to get by, since it was two on a single salary.
The kids the person taught were some of the richest most entitled kids in the country, and he had to face how 18 years olds had a massive better quality of life than the person did.
What made the conditions more appalling was that the College refused to consider the positions as a full fellow, so only offered lunch to the person twice a week... the person had to observe how other full fellows (and students) ate on days he couldn't.
If this is not appalling conditions not sure what is.

The "best" University in the world should pay the best to attract top talent no? That is how it is in the US. Fair if its a community College in the middle of nowhere, but the best "firm" pays the worse in the UK. This is clearly unsustainable, and the uni keeps branding itself as the best undergraduate teaching in the world.
Frankly, what I find truly remarkable is that with all those departures of excellent researchers, Oxford is still a top place. I think that speaks to its resilience. OK some fields are weaker than others and they need to build more, but that is true of all departments except the very top (ten) in the US and LSE.
Goodness me, those 24 leavers in 10 years would make up a top 5 department in Europe.Very true, very sad to see.
He may get a promotion at Oxford.
Will
