A loss for Duke and a gain for JHU.
FB moves from Duke to JHU

Why is he moving? Duke is top 15
Duke is just mediocre in macro. There is a poster who a couple of months ago went crazy arguing how good Duke is in macro. The reality shows that they lost from JHU. Yes family etc matter, but losing to a no place looks bad. If they were good they would lose to Columbia or Penn and not JHU.

JHU no place, wth.

agreed, not a great look for duke but the reality is that no place is going to match a monster offer from a lower ranked place (and it had to be monster to get him to come) because it would have to raise salaries for everyone in the department. So I think it reveals more about his preferences than Duke

Is it standard to increase salaries across the board if you match an outside offer?

It's not and don't know where it came from. I have lots of deadwoods in my department that have nowhere to go. Why would I raise their salary every time a capable person brings outside offers? -- Chair
