As a third-world kid, my opportunity cost is working >60 hours/week and earning half of my PhD stipends..
Finance PhD is great asset

As someone from a third world country myself, I'm fairly sure you're just larping or a special case (e.g. from some extremely poor country). My opportunity cost was quite high because I'm considered elite in my country and would definitely be making a lot more money there while also being at the top of the social pecking order. Here I'm mostly seen as a broke a/ss nerd speaking with a weird accent.

You can always go back and use "American PhD" as a strong asset.

10000000x this.
Average Finance PhD from China/India/Russia went to Tsinghua/IIT/MGU and would be making more $$$ than here and banging a Bejing/Mumbai/Moscow 8/10.This. 1000 times this

American PhD is not as valuable as you think.. It is useful mostly for teaching positions. Domestic network matters much more for real business.

Yeah, but if you studied in your home country during your undergraduate/master's you likely have a domestic network for business. American PhDs are still a strong signal, particularly if you go into something like investment banking/consulting.

It has more to do w the fact that living in US lost a lot of appeal for third world elites who tend to be demographics that gets US phd
no idea why people do a PhD for an industry job. It's just not worth it.
Good to see that it isn't only smart Americans that have realized that a phd is a terrible life decision.

A PhD in finance is good if you can actually get a B-school job afterwards. Not sure what you're on about. But if you already know you dont want an academic job then why bother? it's pointless.
