Covid will be done in an year. However, the admins will nonetheless be even more cautious and risk-averse thereafter. I see seasoned hires as more palatable to add 1 or 2 established researchers to the portfolio. Especially if/when demand for prestige comes back.

Great post, but some of the arguments are not true. Check TMQ's dissertation, and you will see three out of the four chapters are in housing economics. Thus, he has started the line in housing economics since he was a rookie. Looking forward to his performance after he moves to Boulder.

Well, most people monitoring top-tier pubs, something that every scholar should be doing, it comes naturally. If you can’t recognize these people by their initials, you aren’t following contemporary research closely enough.
