   Orly? Please give us 3 examples of tenured faculty who were fired because they spoke "negative truths about AA."

   It's just possible that admins would lie about why a firing is happening. Charles Negy, UCF, is an interesting recent case.

   If you make a problem for admins, they will indeed look for excuses. You better have a clean slate if you go down the road Negy chose.

   It doesn't take much to fire an adjunct. They're so easy to replace, we let them go whenever students complain too much. Again, this is why tenure is necessary.

   Ask Georgetown how the LSAT scores and law school grades of their students correlate with their race. Georgetown will never release this information. It would show exactly what you think it would show. And you cannot possible attribute it entirely, or even mostly, to bias (implicit or explicit). AA has to take some of the blame. AA leads to this by DESIGN.

   I don't think the observation that she made is incorrect as it's true that with AA, the black kids in these classes will do worse on average. And I do think a lot of professors have angst about that, since some w0ke bro might accuse us of racism when we're not the proximate cause for the disparity. That said, the way she says it is a bit disconcerting. "some of my lower ones", "good ones", etc. it's a bit weird.

   Every law school wants a racially diverse student body. The very best school admits the best black students, even though they will mostly be at the bottom of the class. It cascades down, so that even if the overall talent distributions overlap substantially the talent distributions at any one school are disjoint.

   I have a feeling that at the end of the day it's less what she said than how she said it. Firing her also struck me as an extreme overreaction (and perhaps still does) -- but watching the video and hearing how she actually expressed herself, it was hard not to think "da*n, that lady be rayciss."

   This is insane. Is it legal to record a Zoom meeting without every participants written consent?

   DC, Maryland, and VA have differing laws on this! IIRC DC and VA are single party, but MD is not

   It was a class recording with a “bonus” at the end.

    Exactly. They could easily and painlessly end this discussion and shut down the argument with data if the view they're implicitly supporting were true. Even the mismatch opponents don't actually argue that there aren't differences, they just have a different theory of why.

    If you want a group to not do poorly, don't have lower admissions standards. It's absurd to think that the problem is with the person who notices.

    Negy is a clinical psychologist; I doubt he has real tenure.

    In any event, if you are not university line (not medical center line) tenured YOU HAVE NO FREEDOM OF SPEECH. You are merely a lackey for students. Who I'm sure will go after you at every chance they get.

    It actually can be hard to remember. I am constantly juggling the mic and camera mutes, depending on what's going on in the class. Often I forget to start the recording. A teacher has a lot to think about if you're doing it right. It can be very mentally demanding. If you're doing it right.
