   The other prof on the zoom call was placed on mandatory "administrative leave" even though he did not say anything...

   This is insane. Is it legal to record a Zoom meeting without every participants written consent?

   Legality is determined state by state.
   I do my online classes synchronously. I tell them early on that I pose provocative questions that, if taken out of context, could reflect poorly on me. So I refuse to record them. Last week, I was notified when a student started to record a class. I stopped the class, asked for the recording to stop. When I got no response, I kicked the student out of the group call.

   Ok but the next time they will just get sneakier about it. No technology can stop someone from pointing a camera at their computer and recording it, if all else fails. Once you're at the point where you have to worry about your students like this, there is no good solution.

   The announcement that zoom makes "This meeting is being recorded" when you log into a recorded call or when someone starts recording may be considered legally-valid notification of the recording. Staying on the call then constitutes consent to being recorded. At least that is what the legal counsel at my university is saying, and this is in a state where all parties have to consent to recordings.

   And what is wrong about talking that a social group that has had historically less advantages getw lower grades on average? How on earth can we discuss in the future measures to help students in disadvantages social classes? Now you cannot say aloud: "pelple from xxx group are at the bottom of their class, they need extra support or extra measures", now you have to say: there are people with lower grades, but we cannot address them preventively using Bayesian knowdlege from previous students in the same group" if we do we migth get fired, so better let's them fail.
   So good for social inclusion. I think economic authorities are enhancing the trivial path: replacing true inclusive policies by censure and looking away. You do not think to address the things that nobody talks about. A discrimination support approach in the end.

    She said a bigoted opinion about “blacks” on video. She deserved to get fired. And she got fired. No adjunct is worth the headache.

    Again, if you want to keep your job, don’t be a bigot (or make tenure).

    IME it is because of lack of preparation and colleges let a lot of these URMs down.
    Admit people without solid foundation and then do NOTHING to help bridge the gap. Even at my rich Ivy League school the university did zero whatsoever to help kids coming from trash schools adjust to the university. this is what happens.

    Do people seriously believe that the main reason why bla.ck,s do poorly in post graduate programs like law and medicine is because of unconscious bias ? Have you not graded a class before? It’s always the case that the top and bottom of the distribution are occupied by two different minority groups where one is currently getting away with violent assaults during broad daylight on the other group.
    

    So AA never ends. Not even after equal opportunities are given.
