The other prof on the zoom call was placed on mandatory "administrative leave" even though he did not say anything...This is insane. Is it legal to record a Zoom meeting without every participants written consent?
Legality is determined state by state.
I do my online classes synchronously. I tell them early on that I pose provocative questions that, if taken out of context, could reflect poorly on me. So I refuse to record them. Last week, I was notified when a student started to record a class. I stopped the class, asked for the recording to stop. When I got no response, I kicked the student out of the group call.
Ok but the next time they will just get sneakier about it. No technology can stop someone from pointing a camera at their computer and recording it, if all else fails. Once you're at the point where you have to worry about your students like this, there is no good solution.
