How bad are the taxes in Germany in terms of their impact in your day to day life.
In fact, they have even less impact on your day-to-day life, because you don't see them. It's not like in the US, where you think you're going to pay $1 and then they tell you at the cashier, oh no, it's $1.06, did you forget sales taxes?

I'm looking at a private sector gig in Frankfurt. American by birth but fluent in german so language is not an issue.You get taxed a lot, but if your gross is reasonably large (like over 60k a year) you can live reasonably OK even with a family. Big American community. If you speak German, no issue in finding a reasonable well paying job in private sector. Especially if you're happy to go to Deloitte or similar.
